AGLIANICO
Aglianico is a red is a red wine grape grown in the Campania and Basilicata regions of Italy. The grape is believed to have originated in Greece, introduced to Italy by the Phoenicians around the same time as the Gaglioppo vine. The name is in fact a corruption of 'Ellenico', an Italian adjective used to indicate 'Greek'. The smokey, rich wines produced form Aglianico tend to be full bodied with firm tannins and high acidity, making this a wine that has aging potential, as well as making it known as the the 'Barolo of the South'.
